Cluster MICE Luxembourg: a platform to develop the MICE industry
Tourism is an important activity of the national economy, generating by itself 6,5 % of the GDP. The branch of business tourism, including conventions and international conferences, has become particularly important in the last years, hence offering real opportunities of growth for the national MICE industry (Meetings, Incentives, Congresses, Events).
To boost the sector, the State Secretary for Economy, Francine Closener, launched the Cluster MICE Luxembourg (CML) in October 2014: a platform gathering partners from the MICE industry to produce ideas and ways to develop the quality of offers and services.
27 public and private organizations, comprising hotels, venues, transport companies and local DMC/PCO, have currently joined the CML. Embedded inside the National Tourist Board, this “think tank” federates and coordinates each other’s expertise with the ultimate goal to contribute actively to position Luxembourg as a highly attractive MICE destination through improved services and better marketing. The CML will further carry out a permanent mission for a better understanding and information exchange between its members.
The CML includes six technical committees around central themes such as “hospitality and mobility”; “observatory” for a performant benchmarking, “bid book” in order to position the destination as a candidate for future conventions; a commission called “event calendar” but also one commission called “promotion” and one focusing on the “guichet unique”, aiming at a USP (unique selling point) desk for the MICE segment.
